Mirror Piece

This piece is essentially a shallow, three-layered box: the front and middle layers are sheets of mirrored glass; the back layer is a painting. The structure of this piece was inspired by the recessed alcoves in which religious staues are often placed in many Spanish towns and villages.

The designs of the mirrored glass sheets are based on Euclidian and Arabic geometries - the latter reproduced as closely as possible from patterns on the tiled walls of the Alhambra - thus providing a reflecting perspective that leads the eye to infinity. The work measures 40" x 46.5" x 8". It was constructed over several months in 2006.
